Biography
Ola Hassanain is a visual artist, researcher, and architect whose work examines how built environments intersect with state power and systemic violence, ultimately shaping and regulating the daily lives of their inhabitants. Her practice centers on the concept of "space as discourse," expanding traditional architectural ideas to address complex political and environmental realities. Through her work, she crafts a distinct spatial language to track how major political disruptions can prompt the emergence of alternative, hopeful ecologies.Hassanain's approach to critical spatial practice is backed by an impressive academic and professional foundation. She has completed a residency at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (2021–2023), held a BAK fellowship (2017–2018), and taught at prominent institutions including the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK), HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, and the Sandberg Instituut.
